Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about scoring, words, streaks and your data.
When does a new puzzle come out?
At midnight in your own time zone. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same calendar date, so you can compare with friends anywhere.
Why was my word rejected?
Words must be real English words of at least three letters. Names, abbreviations and offensive words are not accepted, and you cannot repeat a word in one round. If a genuine word is rejected, tap Report it and it will be reviewed.
What makes a word "rare"?
The puzzles are planned around roughly 21,000 everyday words. Any valid word outside that list is rare, is marked with a gold ✦, and scores double.
How is my score calculated?
15 points for a word that fits both rules, 5 points for a word that fits one, and 0 for a word that fits neither. Rare words are worth twice as much.
How long is a round?
90 seconds. The timer keeps running if you open the help, stats or settings screens, or if you leave the page.
Can I play more than once a day?
You get one try at today's puzzle, but every earlier puzzle since January 1, 2026 is waiting in the archive. Tap the calendar icon at the top.
Do archive games count toward my streak?
No. Your streak counts daily puzzles played on their own day. Archive games are just for fun and practice.
Why are some days harder than others?
Difficulty follows the week. Monday and Tuesday are easy, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday are medium, and Friday and Saturday are hard. Hard puzzles have far fewer everyday words in the middle.
I changed phones. Where are my stats?
Your progress is saved in your browser on each device, so it does not move between devices. There are no accounts. Clearing your browser data also clears your stats.
How does "how everyone else did" work?
When you finish, your score and words are sent anonymously, tied only to a random code. The game then shows how your score compares with the average and best for that puzzle, and how many players found each of your words.
Can I turn off sound or vibration?
Yes, in Settings. Vibration is available on phones; iPhones need iOS 18 or later and System Haptics switched on in the phone's settings.
Is it free?
Yes. The game is supported by advertising.
